Where are we now?
is a multi-faceted exploration of the intersection of cultures in urban spaces, particularly focusing on the Bullewijk neighborhood in Amsterdam. Through visual, social, and spatial research conducted during residencies at Shebang Amsterdam and Cbk zuid oost, the artist emphasizes the oversight of multicultural considerations in urban design and aims to underscore the importance of preserving cultural diversity while navigating the rise of individual cultures and leveraging them for innovation. The project unfolds in three phases, each posing a critical question: "From who I am to who we are?" delves into the artist's perception of culture, "Who is you?" involves interviews with Bullewijk inhabitants to explore the values and challenges of living in a multicultural neighborhood, and "Where are we now?" addresses the temporal and emotional dimensions of the artist's and participants' beliefs. The culmination involves envisioning the old and new Bijlmer through an architectural manifesto, focusing on the BALCONY as a crucial zone for manifesting collective and individual cultures. The ongoing project seeks to spark a profound debate on the neighborhood's future, engaging with the Academy of the Architecture of Amsterdam and the Gemeente Amsterdam for educational initiatives, workshops, and design improvements to enrich the dialogue and contribute to the neighborhood's cultural and functional evolution.
