The snatched straat
The challenge of having playful streets in the city is expanding from Amsterdam to the nearby area of Diemen. Diemen has an obesity problem and weak connection to public transport and bicycle oriented development. The idea is to use the street itself as a playground to mitigate the traffic intensity of Arent Krijtsstraat in the most low rise neighbourhoods of Diemen. By dividing the roadways in two, a strip five meters wide will become public space, achieved through “cuts“ in the ground where grass and play structures emerge. This creates an inviting space for children, families, and city users.
